Composers for Racial Equality in the Arts
Andrew Rodriguez and Kerwin Young, who came to Boonville as Cycle 12 Fellows in January of 2020, are the recipients of the CREA Fellowship for 2020! We are delighted to pair them with several important and active established artists of color for yearlong online mentorship. In addition, both Andrew and Kerwin have been commissioned by the Academy through our Alumni Support Initiative in partnership with Utah State University in Logan, UT. Their new chamber works will be premiered by the students at the Caine College of the Arts in the spring of 2021, under coaching from the Fry Street Quartet. Andrew and Kerwin will also serve as “remote composers-in-residence” during this time at the university where the advent of COVID-19 requires imaginative new ways for collaboration.
