Music Lit: The Electric Guitar and New Music - An overview of the electric guitar within the world of contemporary classical music, led by composer-electric guitarist Andrew Noseworthy. This course will examine different approaches to composing for the instrument in solo, chamber and symphonic/large ensemble settings while highlighting different stylistic, technological, notational, practical and collaborative approaches. Participants will gain an understanding of writing for the instrument and working with other electric guitarists through the study of existing representative works for the genre, as well as a brief exploration of Andrew's past collaborations with the instrument. The final Happy Hour session will feature special guests Amy Brandon, Brendon Randall-Myers, and Aeryn Santillan.

Tuition for this course is on an honor system, i.e., a sliding scale. The prices cited below are for the entire run of events (five in total) for the course. If your funds are modest and a $5 cappuccino is a treat, you should select the lower end of the sliding scale ($25 for the five events). If you enjoy dining out, then you should select the higher end of the sliding scale ($150 for the five events). Please note that our refund policy is to return 50% of the tuition if withdrawal from enrollment is made at least one month before the start of the class.
