Music Lit: Latin American String Quartet Music (April 11, 18, 25, and May 2, 2021)
Registration Deadline: Tuesday, April 6, 2021
Latin American String Quartet Music: The Nationalists and the new generations. In the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution (1910-1921), artists throughout Latin America became newly concerned with developing a language reflecting their own national cultural heritages. Inspired by their peers in mural arts, many composers attempted to forge a similar movement of cultural pride in music. Led by the first violinist of the Grammy-winning Cuarteto Latinoamericano, Saul Bitran, this course will cover seminal works of the Latin American string quartet repertoire with music scores and audio examples. The Happy Hour discussion event of the course will feature the remaining three members of Cuarteto Latinoamericano as special guests: Violinist Aron Bitran, violist Javier Montiel, and cellist Alvaro Bitran.
